Our boundaries include Southeast San Jose, commonly called Evergreen.  With over 90,000 residents, we are fortunate to have such a wonderfully diverse population and collection of beautiful neighborhoods.  The district is flanked by a vast hillside of open space known as the Evergreen Hills.  There are approximately 33 schools including Evergreen Valley College, 14 parks, 3 golf courses and a neighborhood library.  District 8 is full of Santa Clara Valley's natural beauty and unique characteristics.

San Jose Sikh Gurdwara
Late Pyra Singh Obhi and many other dedicated sevadars of the community founded the Sikh Gurdwara in 1984.The South Bay Sikh Community at that time was growing rapidly and there was an urgent need for a Gurdwara. In 1996, the Gurdwara Committee decided to buy 40 Acres of land near East San Jose Foothills.
Langar (Community Kitchen) - To enforce equality and remove all prejudices, First Sikh Guru Nanak started the community kitchen. All Sikh Gurus welcomed everyone to cook, eat and clean here together regardless of race, color, religion etc. All Gurdwaras have community kitchen and only vegetarian food is served.

Non Violence Peace Force

The So. Bay Chapter works in support of the international

Nonviolent Peaceforce, which is dedicated to the recruitment and utilization of an unarmed international civilian peaceforce.  Our chapter is an advocate for developing nonviolent peacekeeping locally and worldwide. In the international organization, NP Field Team members are invited to conflict areas to protect human rights and create a space for local groups to enter into dialogue and seek peaceful resolution. The Santa Clara County Youth Task Force (YTF) is a group composed of young people, from the ages of 12 to 18, empowered to make a difference. We serve as an advisory body to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and the Human Relations Commisison. We address the issues that teens face on a regular basis. We work to educate teens about the harms that affect their community and strive to find solutions and policies that will make better the lives of young people today. In doing so, we promote youth activism and advocacy, establishing a firm belief in the importance of youth speaking to youth. From that connection we hope will stem an inspiration in teens to embrace the culture and diversity around them, to work together and contribute in making a positive change.
